When will we see spring?

Is it spring yet? Well, it depends how you interpret the first day of spring.

The spring season associated with the vernal equinox, called astronomical spring, occurs on or around March 20, which is today. However, meteorologists recognize March 1 as the first day of spring.

Well, I don’t tend to trust meteorologists. Case in point, the winter we’ve had this year.

This has been one long, cold, icy Minnesota winter. So far, we’ve had more than 70 inches of snow where I live. I don’t remember the last time we saw the asphalt of our driveway or the street outside my home.

Spring can’t come here fast enough. With March here, I hope it’s right around the corner. I know March can be a pretty snowy month here. But I’m definitely hopeful.

I want to sit on the deck in the sun and watch the lake. I want to talk long walks with my husband and the dogs. I want to go outside without a winter parka, hat, mittens and boots. And I’m pretty tired of walking like a penguin on ice.

Am I asking too much?

Spring brings longer days and more sun. Maybe that’s enough for the time being.
