The power of song lyrics

My husband, Rob, is a musicophile. He says he’s the patriarch of music. Usually, it’s true. He does, however, occasionally have lyricitis. There are times I best him in songs and lyrics for sure.
One of our favorite evening activities is listening to vinyl records. We probably have hundreds to choose from. It’s fun. When I have a request, I make it. But usually Rob selects what we listen to and I enjoy each one!
Words matter in life and also in music. Here are a few that really resonate with me:
Small Town by John Mellencamp

No, I cannot forget from where it is that I come fromI cannot forget the people who love me
Yeah, I can be myself here in this small town
And people let me be just what I want to be

A Matter of Trust by Billy Joel
You can’t go the distance
With too much resistance
I know you have doubts
But for God’s sake don’t shut me out

Honesty by Billy Joel
Honesty is such a lonely word
Everyone is so untrue
Honesty is hardly ever heard
And mostly what I need from you
I can find a lover
I can find a friend
I can have security
Until the bitter end
Anyone can comfort me
With promises again
I know, I know

Obviously my new favorite is Billy Joel. We just watched a 5-6 hour documentary on him and his music.
Additionally, I’m super interested in piano music because we just got a piano in the house and I’m excited to start to play again. I took piano lessons for about 10 years into high school.
So, let’s listen to great music and learn more about ourselves along the way!
